Giants Turn Triple Play, Lose Ball, Lose Game

Nov 1, 2014 11:50 PM

Somehow, those involved lost track of their triple-play ball. John Bowker entrusted the souvenir ball to bullpen catcher Taira Uematsu, also the translator for Keiichi Yabu. But, as it turns out, Uematsu had no idea that ball was the special one and he played catch with it, thus the ball got mixed up with all the others. ?I tried,? Bowker said with a grin. This one will have to stay in their memories and on the highlight reels. The Giants turned a triple play in the eighth inning of their 7-3, 13-inning loss to the Padres on Friday night, as reported by the Associated Press.

Webb Losses Second-Straight Monday

May 9, 2014 10:25 AM

Brandon Webb lost his second-straight game on Monday against the Braves, according to The Associated Press. Webb began the season 9-0, including a pair of complete games against the same Atlanta team that roughed him up on Monday. He gave up a season-high 10 hits, the most he's surrendered since 2006. "I just wasn't sharp," Webb said. "I started off and everything they hit seemed to find holes. I wasn't working ahead and didn't have a real good fastball. My velocity was down. I got a lot of strikeouts, but it didn't seem like I could ever make the big pitch when it counted." He lost his previous appearance to the Marlins.

Gonzalez The Hero In Padres' 18-Inning Win

Jul 24, 2014 4:04 AM

Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-out, three-run home run on Sunday to give San Diego an 18th inning victory over Cincinnati on Sunday, according to MLB.com. The hit was Gonzalez's 14th homer of the season, off the tenth pitcher the Reds used in the game. It was also his first walk-off hit in the Major Leagues. "It was a 3-2 changeup," said Gonzalez of his game-winner. "He was throwing a lot of changeups to guys before that. I figured, 'Why would he throw me a fastball since he threw changeups to the other three guys in the same count?' I just made sure that I stayed back on it, and he threw it for a strike and I was able to take advantage."
